Providing a warm support base for a marathon runner this weekendThis weekend is the London Marathon, one of the participants is Dr Bee Flavell who is running for two charities one being Marquis' chosen charity Leukaemia Busters.
This weekend is the London Marathon where 50,000 runners will participate on the world-renowned course in London but there will also be another 50,000 participants given 24 hours to complete the 26.2 miles virtually anywhere in the world, as it stands at the moment 107 countries are participating which is a Guiness World Record! One of those people is Dr Bee Flavell the co-Scientific Director of Marquis’ chosen charity Leukaemia Busters. She will be running for two charities close to her - Leukaemia Busters and Bowel Cancer UK.
Bee is running the marathon because “I wanted to do something to celebrate my upcoming 70th birthday and my survival from colon cancer now over four years ago. I’ve always wanted to run a marathon as a personal challenge so here’s my chance! I’ve elected to support two charities through sponsorship, our own Leukaemia Busters and Bowel Cancer UK.”
To support Bee and follow her progress in real time on Sunday you can download the Virgin 2021 London Marathon app, select tracking, enter her surname or running number and then tap the + button. If you would like to donate to either charity you can by clicking this link: www.virginmoneygiving.com/BeeFlavell1
Bee’s running route will start at Southampton General Hospital, through Southampton Common and then on to Ocean Village via the city centre where she will then undertake circuits of the marina basin up to the total distance of 26.2 miles. Marina Developments Ltd, the operator of Ocean Village Marina are supporting Bee and will be following her progress as a live stream on their website which means you will actually be able to watch her running in real time.
Marquis are providing Bee and the team around her with a motorhome which will act as a warm support base for them before, during & after the race has finished.
We have one final word from Bee herself:
“Supporting research is the key to solving the cancer problem. This is an enormous challenge but it’s one I intend to meet head on and succeed with. These two charities are of great personal significance to me and I’m hoping my running efforts will help raise funds to conduct more vital research that will save more lives in the future.”
Good luck Bee from all of us at Marquis Leisure!
