Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming David Hill from Nowzad to Marquis Exeter, accompanied by Ewok, his rescue Pomeranian from Afghanistan. David collected the donations and shared insights into the impactful work Nowzad is doing to aid animals in need.
Nowzad's Working Animal Programme focuses on enhancing the welfare of working donkeys and horses in Afghanistan, particularly in and around Kabul. These animals are essential to local communities, transporting supplies such as water, food, and building materials, especially in mountainous regions where motorized transport is inaccessible. However, many of these animals suffer from overwork, neglect, and lack of proper care.
To address these issues, Nowzad employs veterinarians, farriers, and harness makers who provide medical treatment, hoof care, and properly fitted harnesses to alleviate the animals' suffering. They also conduct educational campaigns to teach owners about basic animal care, nutrition, and the importance of vaccinations. In 2017, Nowzad established Afghanistan's first donkey and horse sanctuary, offering a safe haven for animals no longer able to work due to age or injury.
In November 2023, Nowzad joined the global Working Animal Alliance, collaborating with NGOs like World Horse Welfare to advocate for the welfare of working animals and highlight their role in achieving sustainable development goals.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to this cause. Your support helps Nowzad continue its mission to improve the lives of countless animals and the communities that depend on them.
